Benefits of a GPS Tracking Device

The late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries have provided many technological advances that have many potential advantages. Cell phones, ipods, blackberries, facebook, twitter, iphones—these things can help us organize our lives, stay in touch with each other, and gather information more quickly than ever before.

One technological advance that comes with many advantages is a GPS tracking device. GPS tracking systems have several components. The first is a system of approximately 24 satellites that constantly orbit the earth. There are also several backup satellites that will take over for damaged satellites. These satellites work in groups of twos or threes (usually threes) to determine the latitude and longitude (exact location) of a receiver on earth. The receiver can be attached to a vehicle, person, or even animal! This information is downloaded and can be accessed from the internet or from a mobile device. Active systems provide a minute-by-minute account of events as they occur, while passive systems are more like historical logs of events that happened.

How can this be of use to people? GPS tracking devices can be used in a multitude of ways.
• If you have a teenager, you can help them be accountable by knowing where they are and how they have been driving. Both active and passive systems can be beneficial with your teenager.
• If you have an aging parent or loved one with Alzheimer’s, GPS tracking can help prevent tragedies due to “wandering,” a common symptom of Alzheimer’s. Many patients are found after sustaining injuries due to exposure—at best.
• If you have a pet, you can even attach a receiver to the collar and reduce your worries if the pet ever gets lose or runs away.
• If you are a small business owner or own a company that involves employee delivery, using GPS tracking can help keep your employees honest on the road. If they are tempted to run personal errands using the company car and company gasoline, knowing that you have access to that information may help them make the right decision. GPS can also cut costs by helping to plan more efficient routes.
• If you are shipping an expensive item or even moving overseas and are packing a container, a GPS tracking device can help you avoid permanently losing your items.

As technology continues to evolve, GPS tracking technology will surely continue to improve. The many uses and advantages of GPS tracking devices can be well worth the investment.
