Lost and Found a Perfect Fit for GPS Tracking Device

GPS tracking devices are no longer a new, unknown technology. In fact, the technology continues to develop and there are many types of devices with amazing capabilities. Some devices allow you to set boundaries for the individual or vehicle with the receiver—a geographical boundary that when crossed, notifies you via internet or mobile device. Some devices will even allow you to track your pet, should it wander away. Some companies with vehicle fleets use GPS devices to track employee driving.

Is it safe? Is it efficient? Is it trustworthy? There are even some spouses plagued by fears of infidelity that track the location of a husband or wife to answer the question. Is he really working late? Is she really on a business trip? Adult children will sometimes use a tracking device on an aging parent with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia that leave the victim prone to wandering away. Parents of children with disabilities will use a device on their children who are also inclined to wander away without any idea of danger.

These uses just scratch the surface of the capabilities of GPS technology. Rocky Mountain Tracking, one of many companies that sell GPS devices, carries a GPS 3100 INT that is water resistant, gives exact time, date, speed, location, and even direction of travel. These devices are so small that they can be put almost anywhere.

For parents with teenage drivers, there are devices that will give you the motion, hard braking and acceleration, and impacts/crash detection of the vehicle. We’ve already mentioned geofencing, the capability to set a geographical boundary for the receiver. This feature can be useful both for children or teenage drivers and for employees in a company with a vehicle fleet.

You can actually set many devices to send notification to your Blackberry or phone when your child, teenage driver, or employee violates the boundary that you have set or goes over a certain speed. If it is your child, you can intervene before problems or accidents occur.
For employees, you can address the situation having objective proof of violation and prevent irresponsible behavior in the future. GPS devices also provide historical logs of activity, mileage alert (for scheduled maintenance and upkeep or just for tracking purposes), maps (can provide alternate route if your chosen route is closed), and what is called a “breadcrumbs trail.” This trail shows what locations were visited and what routes were taken. This is ideal for both parents and employers—know exactly where your teenager went, or if your employee is taking the fastest routes.

These benefits of GPS devices are just the surface of what is available and how you can use them. The capabilities of tracking devices will continue to expand as the technology continues to develop—the possibilities are endless!
